Roger Spottiswoode (Director)

Most recently Roger Spottiswoode directed a feature film in Rwanda titled Shake Hands with the Devil. A native of England, Roger Spottiswoode began his career as an editor. He came to America in the early ‘70’s, where he worked with legendary director Sam Peckinpah on Straw Dogs. His other editing credits include Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, The Gambler, Hard Times and The Getaway starring Steven McQueen.

Making the transition from the editing room to behind the camera, Spottiswoode wrote the 1982 film, 48 Hrs starring Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy and made his directorial debut with the cult classic, Terror Train, starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Since then he has directed such films as The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper, Under Fire, The Best of Times, Shoot to Kill, Turner and Hooch, and Air America. In the course of his career, Spottiswoode’s credits reflecting a diverse array of projects, including the James Bond thriller, Tomorrow Never Dies. He has also directed a number of films made for television which have garnered numerous nominations and awards, including The Last Innocent Man, And The Band Played On, Hiroshima, Noriega: God’s Favorite and Spinning Boris.
